FASCINATION, ADRENALINE AND PRECISION: ABU DHABI MOTORS BRINGS THE ULTIMATE IN M PERFORMANCE TO THE CAPITAL. DTM CHAMPION BMW DRIVER BRUNO SPENGLER UNLEASHES THE POWER OF BMW M AT DYNAMIC DRIVING EVENT.

UAE, Abu Dhabi – With 5.5 kilometers of pure thrill and 21 challenging turns, the Yas Marina Circuit, home of the legendary Formula 1 Etihad Airway Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, was the perfect setting for a breathtaking BMW M track day this weekend. VIPs, customers and media alike discovered the ultimate in M performance, experiencing the precision, dynamics and sporting prowess of a number of elite BMW M models first-hand.

Hosted by Abu Dhabi Motors, the official BMW importer for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the event saw the BMW X5M, X6M, BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupé take to the track with guests pushing them to their limits and experiencing breathtaking performances across the board. Guests also had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to act as co-driver to BMW’s Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) driver and 2012 World Champion Bruno Spengler, who put both the cars and passengers to the test.

Arno Husselmann, General Manager of Abu Dhabi Motors, said: “At Abu Dhabi Motors we always put our customers at the core of the business, appreciating their support them and offering new and exhilarating experiences. What better way to do this than give them the opportunity to ignite their passion for driving and unleash the power of the dynamic M model range. Having Bruno here enabled us to further highlight the true capabilities of these elite sporting machines, which are at home both on and off the track.”

The second generation BMW X6M and X5M were just two of the track stars this weekend. Setting the benchmark in terms of driving dynamics and outstanding efficiency in the high-performance Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) segments, both models are powered by the latest-generation 4.4-litre V8 engine, using innovative M TwinPower Turbo technology to push torque and output to even higher performance levels.

Supreme track models, the BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupé, also played host at this weekend’s event. Underlining their high performance credentials, both models’ sporting designs include large air intakes and Air Curtains at the front end, exposed carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and aluminium body components. These, together with the diffuser at the muscular rear end, are not merely design flourishes; they also fulfil functional roles in terms of aerodynamics, cooling and weight saving.

As with all M models, it’s about the power. The high-revving six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology newly developed for the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe produces a maximum output of 431 hp. Its peak torque of 550 Newton metres (406 lb-ft) is available across a wide rev band yet the engine also achieves a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions of around 25 per cent. Both the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe cover the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (with the optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission).

Also present on the day was the BMW 235i Coupé, a unique proposition in its segment – a coupé from the BMW brand, with a clearly defined boot and low-slung silhouette a long bonnet, doors with frameless windows and a dynamically stretched roofline flowing smoothly into the rear end. With its perfect pairing of a six-cylinder engine giving the model the use of 326 hp and modern chassis technology.

“Guests were inspired by the magnificent setting of the Yas Marina Circuit, thrilled by the skills of Bruno Spengler and thrilled by the power of the BMW M Automobiles. In short, they got to experience something truly special and we look forward to hosting further BMW M Track Days in future months,” concluded Husselmann.

Bruno Spengler is part of the BMW team MTEK. His first year saw him crowned DTM, German Touring Car Masters, champion. At the age of 31, he is one of the most experienced DTM drivers, competing in his eleventh series this season, winning a total of 14 races and 17 pole positions in the championship.
